Who Is Michael Weatherly’s Wife? All About Bojana Janković
Michael Weatherly found a lasting love when Dr. Bojana Janković entered his life.
The NCIS alum first met Janković at a bar in Canada in 2007, and they married two years later in September 2009. Outside of his acting career and hers in internal medicine, the couple has kept busy raising daughter Olivia and son Liam together. Weatherly also shares his son August with ex-wife Amelia Heinle.
Weatherly told PEOPLE in 2017 that he’s very careful to keep his work and family life separate.
“I don’t bring my work home,” he said at the time. “I’m a single-track-mind person, so at work I do my work, but at home I’m devoted to my kids.”
“Acting has given me a way of understanding myself. It’s made me a better person,” he added.
So, who is Michael Weatherly’s wife? Here is everything to know about Bojana Janković and her relationship with the actor.
She is an internist
Dr. Janković is an award-winning, board-certified internal medicine physician.
She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biophysics and earned her medical degree from the University of British Columbia. She then completed her internal medicine residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and West LA Veterans Affairs in Los Angeles.
She also completed a fellowship in integrative medicine under Dr. Andrew Weil at the University of Arizona, and studied functional medicine at the Institute for Functional Medicine. Among her career accolades, Janković has been recognized as Southern California Top Doctors’ Rising Star in 2016 and 2017 and, after relocating to New York, was awarded the Top Doctor recognition in 2018 and 2019.
She has made appearances on Today and Rachael Ray as an expert, and also shares information about various health topics on her social media platforms. Her medical practice operates out of New York City, where her team treats a variety of chronic conditions and practices health optimization and preventative medicine.
Weatherly joked after his departure from NCIS in 2016 that Janković “probably sees me more as a patient than a husband at this point,” referring to their busy work schedules.
She met Weatherly at a bar
Weatherly was at a bar in Vancouver, Canada, with friends in 2007 when he saw Janković for the first time.
“My friend Colleen was saying, ‘Michael, aren’t you lonely?’ ” the actor recalled to PEOPLE in 2010. “I said, ‘Not really. I’m pretty happy. Works for [George] Clooney!’ ”
“I kept looking out of the corner of my eye and seeing this ravishing, gorgeous beauty,” he added.
“We made eye contact,” Janković chimed in. “And that was it.”
After meeting at the bar, they were in a long-distance relationship for two years before Janković relocated to Los Angeles ahead of their wedding.
She is involved with charity work
Aside from her family and medical career, Janković is involved with several charity organizations.
She serves on the board of directors for Environmental Working Group, and also for Lifeline New York, which provides support to Serbian children and medical facilities in need. In addition, she has served as a board member of the Tryall Fund, a nonprofit organization that promotes education and health services in Jamaica.
She is also a competitive Latin ballroom dancer, and enjoys exercising, spending time with her pets, being in nature and creating new recipes.
She and Weatherly wed in 2009
The couple tied the knot on Sept. 30, 2009.
Weatherly was previously married to his Loving and The City costar Amelia Heinle from 1995 to 1997, and the pair shares son August, born in January 1996.
“That was a very difficult time,” the actor told PEOPLE in 2017 of his split from Heinle.
However, he said his divorce taught him lessons that he has taken into his marriage with Janković. “When I got remarried, I wanted to do my very best to ensure that rupture wouldn’t happen again. My kids and my marriage are the things I’m proudest of,” he shared.
She is a mom of two children
In January 2012, Weatherly revealed that he and Janković were expecting their first child together. The couple welcomed daughter Olivia on April 10, 2012.
The proud dad announced the news on X (formerly Twitter) at the time, writing: “Gentlefolk of Twitter and elsewhere, Bojana and I are proud to announce the arrival yesterday of OLIVIA WEATHERLY! #SpecialAgentWeatherly.”
He later opened up to PEOPLE about how he and Janković settled on their daughter’s name.
“My wife Bojana is Serbian, and her name means war or warrior,” he explained. “And when you give someone an olive branch, that’s an offering of peace, so Olivia is peace. I think we have a Tolstoy novel going on now: Mother and daughter, war and peace!”
In April 2013, just before Olivia’s first birthday, Weatherly announced that Janković was pregnant with their second child. Their son Liam made his arrival on Oct. 29, 2013.
“Beautiful Bojana gave birth to 10 lb. Liam today, the most important day of the week,” Weatherly tweeted at the time, jokingly adding in a plug for NCIS. “(NCIS Tuesday 8pm CBS) #NCIS.”
When Weatherly exited NCIS in 2016 after 13 years on the TV drama, he spoke to PEOPLE about how he was enjoying the extra downtime with his family.
“The kids are very excited to have me around, mostly because I’m wrapped around their little fingers. I’m just a sucker,” he said, noting: “I’m trying very hard to be authority dad.”
“As a lot of working parents know, when you’re not around a lot and then you’re with your kids, it’s very hard to just come in and be the strict one because then you’re just an a——,” he explained. “But you don’t want to be too soft.”
