Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are bringing a shocking page-turner to the big screen.

The actresses will star in an adaptation of the 2022 novel The Housemaid by author Freida McFadden. A Simple Favor director Paul Feig is set to direct the film, with Rebecca Sonnenshine writing the screenplay.

“I can’t even express how excited I am to announce that #TheHousemaidMovie is coming soon!!!” wrote McFadden on Instagram. “@Lionsgate has come up with the absolute perfect cast and director, and I am just so grateful! I mean, Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and Paul Feig… mind blown!!!!”

“I’m so honored and thankful to all my readers who helped make this dream come true!!!!!” added McFadden, who wrote two sequels: The Housemaid’s Secret and The Housemaid Is Watching.

On his Instagram, Feig wrote of the announcement, “It’s happening. So excited to bring this great book by @fmcfaddenauthor to life on the big screen with @sydney_sweeney and @mingey and my pals at @lionsgate and @hiddenpicturesmedia. Millie is on her way.”

Sweeney, 27, will play Millie, who, according to an official logline, is a “struggling young woman who is relieved to get a fresh start as a housemaid to Nina (Seyfried, 38) and Andrew, an upscale, wealthy couple… but soon learns that the family’s secrets are far more dangerous than her own.”

Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said in a statement, “I’m thrilled to have The Housemaid join our upcoming slate. A great filmmaker and a great cast with a great script from a great book is a terrific place to start.”

“My prior work experiences with Paul and Amanda have been nothing short of spectacular, and Sydney is as talented and compelling as can be,” added Fogelson.

Erin Westerman, president of production for the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, added that Sweeney and Seyfried are “perfect” for Millie and Nina because “they’re both mysterious, nuanced and incredibly skilled at becoming characters who don’t reveal everything right away.”
