Halle Berry on Ex-Husband Eric Benét’s Sex Addiction Claims

Halle Berry is weighing in on her ex-husband Eric Benét’s claim of sex addiction — with the kind of candor her fans know and love.

Although she didn’t mention Benét by name, it was clear who Berry, 58, was referring to when she appeared on the Monday, Oct. 7 episode of Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast.

“I had one husband who said he was a sex addict,” she recalled. “But I don’t f—ing believe that s—.”

Sharing a laugh with Shepard and co-host Monica Padman, she added, “That’s some bulls—.”

Benét, who was married to Berry from 2001 to 2005, admitted to infidelities at the time, checking into a 35-day sex-addict rehab program in 2002. He told PEOPLE in 2005 that he was not addicted to sex, but “wanted to save my marriage and do anything necessary to do that.”

The Grammy-nominated singer called his cheating a “betrayal” at the time, adding, “But I never did have sexual intercourse with anyone while I was with Halle. Going into rehab was presented to me by her mother that in order for the marriage to have a shot, this is what you need to do.”

Berry recalled in a 2004 interview with Oprah Winfrey that she had read about Benét cheating in a Star Magazine article. The revelation came 10 days after she won her best actress Oscar for Monster’s Ball.

The X-Men star has since welcomed daughter Nahla Ariela with Gabriel Aubry, whom she dated from 2005 to 2010, and shares son Maceo-Robert with Oliver Martinez, to whom she was married from 2013 to 2016. She was also married to baseball player David Justice from 1993 to 1997.

Speaking on Armchair Expert, Berry opened up about her happy relationship with Van Hunt, her boyfriend since 2020. “We celebrated when we hit four years like we had been married 20 years, that’s how big it was for me personally,” she admitted.

“He’s had long relationships, not me… We both were scared,” added the Never Let Go star. “He was waiting for the shoe to drop, and I was waiting to drop the f—ing shoe. Because I just can’t get past that. It’s been such a relief. ‘OK, yes, I can do this relationship thing.’ And he is my person and you just know it.”

Following this year’s Never Let Go and The Union, Berry will next produce and star opposite Angelina Jolie in Maude v Maude.
